Our founder, Josh, is a US combat veteran who proudly served in the Iraq War. He has become an integral part of the Kenyan community in his home state and sought to reciprocate the kindness they’ve shown him. He started by importing Kitenge fabric, aiming to support those in Kenya.
As he identified a niche market, he expanded his contacts, carefully selected a charity supporting disabled children in Kenya, and began forging business ties in both the US and Kenya. Josh chose to transition from platforms like Facebook Marketplace and eBay to establish his own website. This move led him to obtain an official business license.
Josh’s Kitenge is now a licensed business in Washington state, USA. The journey to launch wasn’t easy; the website broke multiple times, necessitating the hiring of a professional. Nevertheless, we persevered. During the website development, social media accounts were set up, and additional business partnerships in Kenya were established. We are now thrilled to announce collaborations with numerous Kenyan tailors, providing our customers with custom-made clothing crafted from premium materials at an affordable price.
